Abstract
Purpose: We investigate the effect of refractive correction with soft contact lenses on pupil size according to illuminance and refractive status in myopes.

Methods: Participants were young myopes (n = 51; 22.47 ¡¾ 1.80 years; age range, 20 - 28 years) and refractive errors were corrected using soft contact lenses. Pupil sizes were measured with a pupillometer at the modes of scotopic, low and high mesopic condition (light off, 0.3 and 3 lx) at 3.5 m in the 100 lx illuminance condition. Based on refractive errors subject were divided two groups ; -2 diopters or less were low myope group, and -2 diopters or more were moderate?high myopia group and pupil sizes were compared. The correlation between refractive errors (D) and pupil size was analyzed by Pearson correlation and the significance level was p<0.05.

Results: Pupil size of myopes corrected with soft contact lenses decreased significantly with increasing illuminantion (p<0.05). Pupil size in moderate?high myopes was greater than that of low myopes, however, there was no correlation between pupil size and refractive errors in all illuminance (p>0.05). Pupil size of myopes after correction with soft contact lenses was not different from that of uncorrected condition in low myopes, but was significantly decreased in moderate¡¤high myopes (p<0.05).

Conclusions: Pupil size of the moderate-high myopes was significantly larger than that of low myopes, and decreased after correction with the soft contact lens. This result get in this study will be basic data in the development for the multifocal contact lens design.
